WORLD FOOD DAY – 16 OCTOBER

Never in the history of mankind have we been compelled, on a global scale, to reconsider the way we produce our food. The United Nations’ Food Systems Summit 2021, has urged all 193 member states to do just this – for the sake of climate change, and our own survival. To commemorate World Food Day 2021, The Humane Education Trust and Caring Classrooms invites senior school teachers to offer learners an understanding of the issues involved through our freely downloadable curriculum-aligned lesson plans on the Topic: Health, Social and Environmental Responsibility, for Grade 8, Grade 10 and Grade 11.

What is Caring Classrooms' special value?

Caring Classrooms' Lesson Plans meet the call by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, to everyone, everywhere, “to make peace with nature”.

Where are we going?

We are striving for a world where our young people are equipped and empowered to live and work in support of the interconnectedness of people, animals, plants and the environment, recognising that the health of one depends on the health of the other.

How will our children benefit from Caring Classrooms?

To hasten the repair and restoration of our world, it is imperative our youngsters get involved. To achieve this, they need to know more! Much more! They need to know why! They need to know how!

• They need our online Lesson Plans
• Our Lesson Plans are free-of-charge to teachers

Our children will begin to understand António Guterres' call to action through the UN's One Health concept, recognising that human health, animal health and environmental health are inextricably interconnected, with each dependent on the other.

This concept is endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

One Health · One Welfare

Additionally, all lesson plans support the South African Constitutional Court’s historic judgment in 2016, noting that…
